The Shaw Festival is “one of the great repertory theatres in the English-speaking world” (Pittsburgh-Post Gazette). One of the world’s finest theatre companies, the Shaw Festival is celebrated for its vivid and exhilarating productions of plays by Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries such as J.M. Barrie, Tennessee Williams, William Inge and Noël Coward and plays about the period of Shaw’s lifetime (1856-1950), including the work of French and English Canadian playwrights. 

Each year, The Shaw presents 10-12 plays performed in four theatres from April – October for audiences of more than 250,000. Situated in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, the Shaw Festival has grown to become a major Canadian cultural icon, a gem in this country’s rich cultural heritage.  These plays are lovingly and artfully brought to the stage each year by a talented team of Canadian actors, directors, and designers, showcasing the incredible tapestry of talent that this country contributes to the world. 

Set on the edges of the Niagara River and home to award-winning wineries, Fort George, and the site of the War of 1812 (Bicentennial Binational Celebrations to take place in 2012), Niagara-on-the-Lake is located about 20 minutes from the thunder of Niagara Falls down the scenic Niagara Parkway via the historic village of Queenston.
